To play around with me on Edmodo, sign up as a student. The group code is znmumt.
Edmodo

Setting up:
Signing up was pretty easy and you can create student accounts without an email or the students can create their own. I suggest the teacher setting up the accounts and making the username's fairly similar with the same passwords (for elementary school). If the students happen to change their passwords, the teacher can reset it which is great.
Putting assignments for the class is very simple. Teachers can add a document from their computer such as a rubric and/or write a brief description that will go on the group page. One of my favorite features is that the assignments go on a calendar so students can keep track of what is due.

The teacher can see who has turned in what assignment and can grade them and leave comments. Teachers can even upload a file such as the completed rubric to give the student more specifics.
Privacy- No problem?:
I was worried at first that students could write on each others pages with threats or inappropriate comments but Edmodo does not have that feature. Students can write on the class page (group page) and see each other's comments. The teacher can choose to have his/her page private so that students can write the teacher but will not see all the comments the teacher received. So if students are shy about asking a teacher a question about an assignment, none of their classmates will read it.
Changing privacy is simple.
One issue I did notice is that students can leave comments without approval. I received a negative post from a student and for some reason I wasn't give the email notification so it stayed on. Thankfully, I could delete it. So I recommend talking to students about the rules of Edmodo and/or complete a digital citizenship lesson.
Need Help? Edmodo is there 24/7!
If there are any problems Edmodo responds back pretty quick when you write on their page. They accept teacher suggestions as well.
Telecollaborative project
Edmodo would be a great way to connect classes together for a project. Deadlines can be put on the calendar and students can discuss together easily on the group page. However, grading will be a challenge as there can only be one teacher to grade.
Overall, I really hope Edmodo is not blocked at my school. (Crossing fingers!)

Then when students login they will see under Spotlight that 1 assignment is due. The students will then click on it and complete the assignment.
